Imphal, July 24 2022:
With NHIDCL continuing to construct only
a double lane for National
Highway 37, which is meant
to be four-lane without according importance to directive of the state and central
governments, Patsoi MLA Sapam Kunjakeshor alias Keba
has called on the people to
join hands in stopping the
road construction work.
After MLA Keba, who is
also Manipur Electronics
Development Corporation
chairman, asked NHIDCL to
stop construction of National
Highway from Oriental College to Keithelmanbi if it is not
ongoing to make it four-lane,
the company continues to
construct drains forcefully.
As
such, the MLA inspected the
work site again on Sunday.
Speaking in this regard,
MLA Keba informed that the
central government approved
upgrade of the National Highway 37 from Oriental College to Keithelmanbi into a
four-lane.
Before giving the
approval, works minister
K Govindas also inspected
the project and instructed
to stop the construction till
the approval is given.
However, NHIDCL continues to
construct drains on the side
of the highway against the
instruction of the minister, he
said, while expressing apprehension that such construction will hinder the process of
making the National Highway
into four-lane.
Pointing out that the gravels used in the construction
did not maintain its quality
and the road may start deteriorating within one or two
season, MLA Keba said that
NHIDCL has remained deaf
to the opinions and instructions of the people and the
government.
There is no hindrance in
construction of the road but
what they are suggesting is to
construct four-lane National
Highway.
As the company did
not listen to the instruction,
he urged the people to join
hands and stop the construction until state and central
government and NHIDCL
come to an understanding.
He also exhorted the people
to check the road whether
it is wide enough and work
quality maintained.
