Imphal, November 03:
The frequent economic blockades along National highways, bandhs, arrival of monsoons and other unavoidable circumstances were the main reasons behind the slow pace of work in the construction of Laxmi Market and New Market, said Director of Simplex Projects Ltd, Kolkata JK Bagui.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club today, Bagui disclosed that the construction process was further impeded by the necessity to redraw and redesign the ground work of the structure due to the nature of the soil.
Saying that 25 percent of the two market complexes have been completed, he assured that the main structures of Laxmi market expected to cost Rs 9 crores would be completed by December and the whole complex can be completed by February next year.
As for the New Market being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 11 crores, the construction company has been working hard to complete the market complex by July next year, he mentioned.
More than 200 labourers are being engaged in the construction of the two market complexes.
Regarding the third market complex of Ima Keithel, the Simplex Projects Ltd has not been entrusted to construct the market complex till date.
Even though the company had submitted tender forms thrice to NBCC for the same work, NBCC has not yet allotted the construction work of Ima Keithel to Simplex Projects Ltd.
As such, the company is not responsible for the outrage of women vendors for non-construction of the market complex, noted its Director.
Enraged with the failure of the State Government to take up the market construction work till date, the women vendors of Ima Market had demolished the enclosure around the work site a few days back.
Informing that construction of the 100 bedded hospital at Thoubal has been completed by 30 percent, he attributed the delay in the hospital construction to highway blockades, bandhs and the prolonged time taken by the Government to acquire land.
Moreover, the construction work was further impeded by floods.
Citing AG Office building, Indoor Stadium of SAI Takyelpat, Heavy Fuel Power Project etc, Bagui said that Simplex Projects Ltd representative Sankar Sen Gupta had undertaken many construction projects in Manipur with strict control on quality.
To a question, JK Bagui clarified that the Simplex Infrastructure Ltd engaged in construction of Capitol Project and the Simplex Projects Ltd are two separate companies and have no connection at any level.
