Volunteers of AMADA Mayai Loisang, AMADA Imphal East and New Checkon Women Development Committee have seized a large quantity of locally brewed illicit liquor and Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) from a house at New Checkon as well as from a Tata Sumo during drives launched today.
Volunteers of AMADA Imphal East Council and New Checkon Women Development Committee seized the locally brewed illicit liquor from the residence of one Arambam Babu Singh (40) during a raid conducted at around noon today.
A woman who was also alleged involved in the business was also rounded up from the same house.
On the other hand, volunteers of AMADA Mayai Loisang also managed to intercept and seize 60 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) from a Tata Sumo along with a woman bootlegger.
The registration no.of the seized vehicle is MN0-6N-3769.The driver of the Tata Sumo is one A Olen Singh of Langol Housing complex.
Restriction has been imposed on plying the said vehicle for services atleast for 20 days.
The driver has also confessed that the same vehicle has been earlier seized four/five times for transporting liquor.
Later taking to media-persons at AMADA head office here today, volunteers of New Checkon Women Development Committee appealed to all who are consuming or selling liquor while coming to stay at rented houses in New Checkon area.
They have also warned of intensifying the drive if all concerned do not heed to the warning.
On the other hand, Committee on Anti-Drugs and Alcoholism (CADA) rounded up six drug addicts and pushers.
All the six persons were rounded up from different places by volunteers of Manipur Forward Youth Front (MAFYF) which is a constituent units of CADA and later handed over to their respective family members after giving proper advice.
They are identified as Thounaojam Livingstone alias Abothe (30) of Kwakeithel Nganappithong, Chongtham John (20) of Pishum Oinam Leikai, Ayush Heisnam (23) of Haobam Marak Ngangom Leikai, Sougaijam Ashini (25) of Thangmeiband Polem Leikai, Khuraijam Veroson (18) of Tera Sayang and Yumnam Bikram (20) of Thangmeiband Lourungpurel Leikai.
