The newly constructed Kumbi women's market shed was inaugurated today with Industries Minister N Mangi and PDA Chairman K Ranjit as chief guest and president respectively.
The market sheds were constructed by Planning and Development Authority under Integrated Development of Medium and Small Town scheme at the cost of 80 lakhs.
For the market shed constructed under the initiative of Kumbi A/C MLA and Industries Minister N Mangi, a sum of Rs 40 lakhs was sanctioned in the first phase to start the construction work in 2003.Eight market sheds were completed in 2005.During the second, another Rs 40 lakhs was sanctioned to build 8 more market sheds which have been duly completed.
Speaking on the occasion MLA K Ranjit said that the complex includes toilet facilities, construction of drains and pavement of market floors.
Taking strong exception to the stealing of the inauguration plate of the market shed by some unidentified persons yesterday night, Ranjit wondered as to what would such persons do if they were elected as representatives of people.
He noted that the new market sheds would women vendors of Sugnu, Hiyanglam and Thanga A/Cs.
Addressing the occasion, Minister Mangi noted that damages done to the market sheds because of personnel animosity against him would not serve any purpose.
The proposed Kumbi bridge under NLCPR and metalled roads which are expected to be seen soon in all the parts of Kumbi A/C except for some areas in Ithai and Wapokpi are all fruits of people's faith in democracy.
Saying that his workers never assaulted other workers and claiming it was others workers who assaulted his workers, he clarified that he never informed to AR about his workers being beaten by other persons.
