Lamka, November 03:
A day after Hmar National Assembly deferred its threat to the Meitei community in the district, a specially arranged meeting of public leaders, students' organisation and district MLAs to discuss Parbung Refugee issue and other related matters at Synod Hall here today resolved for a peaceful co-existence of various communities in the district and entrust the Churachandpur District Students Union (CDSU) to take up the initiative to foster communal harmony.
Various speakers at the meeting call for promoting peaceful and cordial relationship among various communities in the district and welcome the HNA gesture in this regard.
The meeting though intended to discuss the refugee issue, little was talked about it and a resolution adapted by the meeting made no mention of it as the District MLAs headed by T Phungzathang, IFCD Minister had nothing new to offer on the occasion but repeat the already announce packages that was time and again snub as inefficient.
In fact, JL Sawmi president of Hmar Women Association mention in today's meeting that the already announce relief packages were insufficient while president of United Committee Manipur (UCM) K Langgamba too appeal to the government for additional packages as the refugees had nothing to harvest at hand.
In a poignant speech at the meeting JL Sawmi alleged that HWA was dejected by the action SPF Government and Human Rights Alert (HRA) over the handling of Rajkhowa Commission and calls for urgent conclusion of the commission's report.
She also alleged that of the 21 rape victims one was now blinded, another mentally disturbed and many more psychologically traumatized.
During the meeting leaders of Meitei Society agreed to ditch the restriction imposed within their community as a result of the HNA threat while others call for considering the resemblance of varied communities rather than the differences for establishing a lasting harmony in the district.
Besides other the meeting was attended by Dr Chanltonlien Amo Tipaimukh/MLA, who upon enquiring said it will be more desirable if atleast a clause for an early resolvement of the refugee imbroglio was added in today's resolution, T Manga Vaiphei Henglep/MLA and TN Haokip, Minister IPR.
