Imphal, February 03 2010:
Bearing the brunt of the economic blockade enforced by the Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) over various demands including improvement of National Highway 39 (Imphal-Dimapur Road), many good laden trucks suffered damage in stone pelting attacks at different parts of Senapati district.
All along the way, good laden trucks heading towards Imphal were pelted stones by the blockade supporters at various places like Senapati, Karong, Taphou, Makhan, etc, thus causing damages.
SDSA had announced enforcement of indefinite economic blockade after curtailing national Highway bandh with effect from February 1 midnight.
Meanwhile, about 120 good laden trucks which were stranded along the way due to the economic blockade reportedly left Mao Gate for Imphal under security escort today.
However, inspite of the presence of security escort, suspected blockade supporters continued to attack the trucks with stones.
On the other hand, in an effort to thrash out a solution, a team of Ministers today visited Senapati district and held a joint meeting with the agitators in the office of NPO.
The Ministerial team include Works Minister K Ranjit, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister N Biren, Tribal Development Minister DD Thaisii and other MLAs.
