If the anti-defection law happened to be enforced during the rule of the Manipur People Party (MPP) in the state in 1972, Manipur would have witnessed a mark development in all sectors, said its president Dr Nimaichand Luwang today.
The party today remembered former Chief Minister, Md Allimuddin, the first Chief Minister after Manipur after became a full fledged state at a gathering at its office premise on the western side of the Imphal Polo Ground on his 26th death anniversary.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Nimaichand Luwang said that MPP is still following the footprint left by the late leader to serve the state.
MPP is the third regional party of India to come into existence was formed in December 26, 1965.And the party is the first party among the regional political parties that ruled a state.
During the rule of MPP, due to frequent defections among the members of state Assembly and Parliament, a stable government hardly ruled in a state of the country.
But now with the enactment of the Anti-defection law, Ibobi led Congress government in the state can rule the state as stable government, he observed.
Claiming that Khongjom War Memorial at Khongjom and Sahid Miner in Imphal are the existing because of the brief MPP rule in the state, had MPP not been there, such important sites which symbolized the state's respect to the brave forefathers may not have been seen by the people, he observed and said this is what regional character of a political parties is.
Many leaders of the party attended the observance function which was marked by offering of floral tributes to the former Chief Minister of the state.
