Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigating into the July 23 shooting incident of BT Road has sought certified copies of the statements of witnesses recorded by the Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC), official source said today.
Members of the SIT led by DIG of Police, CBI, Dr Neeraja Gotra is currently camping in the state and investigating into the incident which claimed the life of two persons, Ch Sanjit and Th Rabina apart from injuries to five others.
The DIG sought the certified copies of the statement recorded by the MHRC during its course of independent inquiry into the same incident in a letter written to the Deputy Secretary of the Commission, the source said.
In the letter, the DIG further sought copies of the inquiry report in case the Commission has submitted the same to the state government.
Mention may be made that a directive of the Gauhati High Court, Imphal Bench had handed over the case of July 23 incident registered with the Imphal City Police.
The CBI has also announced that SIT will cover the case of death of young pregnant housewife Th Rabina while investigating into the case of killing of Sanjit.
With regard to the information sought by the SIT, member of the Right Commission, RK Rajendro has met with the DIG Dr Neraja Gotra.
In the meeting the DIG urged the Commission to extend full cooperation in the investigation into the case, the source added.
