Tamenglong, February 03 2010:
The people of Tamenglong residing at the two biggest ward- Tamenglong ward No.III and Ward No.IV has been suffering untold miseries as power department did not care to provide electricity for the last two months after the power transformer broke down on 13 December 2009 last year.
The general public as well as government offices and official bungalows have been facing untold sufferings and inconveniences as electricity department has failed to repair or replace the power transformer and provide electricity.
Due to lack of electricity in these localities for the last two months the people have started taking electricity direct from the live transformer nearby which will eventually cause damage to the other power transformer.
On visiting the District Hospital this afternoon, Hueiyen Lanpao News Service found that due to lack of electric current in the district hospital the laboratory, Integrated Disease surveillance Project, IDSP and ICTC were almost non-functional today.
When Hueiyen Lanpao News Service contacted the Chief Medical Officer Tamenglong, Dr Chambo Gonmei, CMO Tamenglong said that power went off since 24 November 2009 last year, added that the power department had forgotten the importance of power in the district hospital.
"We are facing many problems in running the district hospital during emergency at night, we need regular power supply for vaccines and proper light during delivery and so on..", said Dr Chambo Gonmei.
Doctors and nurses are facing inconveniences too as there are no proper lights in the patients ward, he added.
He also disclosed that the 250 kv generator of the district hospital has been lying defunct since 2008 as the contractor who had installed the generator failed to construct the shed and to take care of other necessities needed for electric supply.
He wants immediate restoration of electricity to run the district hospital properly in the larger interest of the general public.
The lone BSNL micro wave at Gadai bazaar (Medical gate) is also facing the same problems because of non-availability of electricity in the area.
It is learnt from reliable sources that the BSNL authority has to use generator throughout the day and night as there are no back up batteries also.
Water supply for the town areas too has been disrupted as electricity is needed to pump up water.
PHED sometimes failed to supply water for three to four days in a week.
In the meantime, the Deputy Commissioner Tamenglong when contacted told Hueiyen News Service that the Electricity department had taken down the damaged transformer to Imphal for necessary action, it is up to the power department to restore the damaged transformer, the official said.
However, the Deputy Commissioner, Tamenglong assured that he would meet the Chief Engineer personally and urge him to take necessary steps for restoration of power supply.
