Protests, candlelight vigils held across State

As the incident of alleged sexual assault of a minor from Mayang Imphal incite rage across the State, various organizations and local bodies staged protests and candle light vigil, demanding justice and punishment of those involved in the gruesome crime.
Youths of Chandonpokpi (Phaipi) village in Chandel district took a protest demonstration condemning the death of the minor girl after her modesty was allegedly outraged.
The youths, while demanding exemplary punishment to all culprits involved in the crime, also raised slogans to save girl children.

Such incidents when the State is stricken by the COVID-19 outbreak is unfortunate and condemnable at the strongest term, the youths said.
In Moirang, demanding the authorities concerned to award capital punishment to those found guilty in the incident of Mayang Imphal, which resulted in the death of one minor girl, the Association for Rural Development & Women Empowerment (ARDWE) Keinou and Peoples Welfare Association (PWA) Keinou staged a candle light protest on September 5 at Keinou Kangjeibung.
Over 100 people took part in the demonstration following SOPs for COVID-19 .
Condemning the increasing cases of violent against women, children and alleged inattentiveness of the Government over the issue, the women protesters maintained silence during the demonstration, while the male protestors shouted slogan demanding capital punishment for the guilty.
PWA president Y Norton asserted that only capital punishment is fitting for crime of such degree.
The Young Kwakta Organization (YKO) also staged a sit-in protest at Kwakta Bazar, today.
Later, the protestors took out a rally, demanding justice for the 14 years old girl who was found in an unconscious state at Mayang Imphal on September 2 and died the following day at RIMS ICU.
Placards that read "No mercy to Rapist," Girls are angels save girls,", "Hang the Rapist until death," and "Justice delay is justice denied" etc, were displayed by the protestors.
In Jiribam, AMMOCOC Jiribam local committee along with local clubs and Meira Paibis organised candle light vigil, while AMMOCOC local committee and AMMDC in Lilong Ushoipokpi, AMMOCOC local committee and Yuba Club in Kshetrigao and AMMOCOC local committee and ARDO Keirao in Keirao organised similar event.
