COVID death toll climbs to 38, cases now stand at 7022

The State's COVID-19 death toll has reached 38 following the death of a woman and a man at RIMS and JNIMS respectively.
Sources informed that a 65-year old man from Thoubal district died at JNIMS at around 2.30 am today.
The man who was already suffering from diabetes and heart problems was admitted to the hospital on August 29 .
Further, a 31-year old woman from Imphal West district died at RIMS at around 10 pm yesterday.
The woman who was having colon problems was brought to the hospital yesterday afternoon.
Both the man and woman were infected by COVID-19, said the sources.
Taking into account the latest victims, COVID-19 has killed 10 residents each of Imphal West and Thoubal districts.
A high ranking official of the Health Department said that the State Government has not been saying anything on the State Technical Committee's report on first stage community transmission confirmed in Imphal West district even as the COVID-19 situation is growing more critical in the capital district.
Following the Government's initiative to reopen schools and colleges where COVID-19 tests are done, due arrangements have been made to conduct COVID-19 test in local community halls.
Moreover, efforts are on to test all the people residing within containment zones and also to increase the number of COVID care centres, said the official.
According to a press release issued by Additional Director (Health) and COVID-19 Common Control Room spokesman Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, 139 people including 18 personnel of CAPF were tested positive for the contagion during the last 24 hours at RIMS, JNIMS, Ukhrul, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Imphal East, Jivan Hospital, Babina Diagnostic Centre, Churachandpur, Senapati, Tamenglong and Raj Medicity.
The positive cases belong to Imphal West (74), Imphal East (21) and others to Senapati, Ukhrul, Tamenglong, Thoubal, Churachandpur and Bishnupur.
All the 121 civilians who have been tested positive have no significant history of travelling outside the State.
On the other hand, 189 people were discharged during the last 24 hours from CCC Lamboi Khongnangkhong (64), JNIMS (1), RIMS (11), Noney (3), RD Wing (10), UNACCO (35) and CAPF (65) .
The total COVID-19 positive cases has reached 7022 in the State (general population 5331, Central security personnel 1691).It includes 1820 active cases (general population 1282, Central security personnel 538) and 5164 discharged cases (general population 4013, Central security personnel 1151) .
The recovery rate stands at 73.54 per cent.
Further information received from Imphal West district administration said that 21 other people were also found infected by the virus today.
The fresh positive cases include six CRPF personnel, one individual staying at the quarters of MLA RK Imo and a security personnel.
Out of 405 samples tested today at JNIMS, 20 were found positive.
Moreover, 13 people were found infected by the virus after rapid antigen test at Thoubal and seven others at Jiribam today.
