Lilong protests robbery

A protest demonstration was staged today at Lilong Keithel against the robbery of Rs 6 lakh off one Md Ataur Rahaman allegedly by a team of commandos who also thrashed the victim black and blue.
The gathering resolved to block Imphal-Moreh highway if four personnel involved in the robbery are not booked and the money returned by Friday.
Ataur Rahaman who runs a hardware cum cement store at Lilong Keithel went to Old Assembly Road, Thangal Bazar to deposit money in the bank but he was stopped by a team of motorcycle borne Imphal West District Police commando at around 10.30 am yesterday.
As they came across the amount of Rs 6 lakh on searching Ataur Rahaman's body, they forced him to board a car (Maruti A-Star).
Then Ataur Rahaman was taken to different places in the course of which he was asked all types of irrelevant questions.
He was abandoned only after merciless thrashing at Mantripukhri at around 5 pm.
As someone known to him came across Ataur Rahaman, his family was informed and he was taken to JNIMS.
Meanwhile, a public meeting held today with Lilong Zilla Parishad Member Md Abdul Salam (Feishal) in the chair constituted the JAC Against the Inhuman Torture of Md Ataur Rahaman.
The meeting condemned in the strongest term the Government's alleged failure to take up any action even after three out of the four assailants have been named.
The meeting further resolved to block Imphal-Moreh highway at Lilong apart from launching different modes of intense agitation in case the looted amount is returned and the involved personnel are not booked within the next 48 hours.
