Yaoshang round up Six die in mishaps, scores injured

At least 6 persons died and more than 80 people were injured in different road accidents during the five days Yaoshang festival in the State.
At the same time, Imphal West District Traffic Police collected Rs 3,59,200 as fines during a drive to enforce traffic rules during the five days Yaoshang celebration.
According to report from RIMS morgue, five persons were brought dead during the Yaoshang festival from different parts of Imphal West district.
From the record of RIMS morgue, Irengbam Lily Devi (42) w/o Ningthemjao of Irengban Mayai Leikai died in a road accident which occurred at a place under the jurisdiction of Nambol PS.
Pushpa Khuraijam (21) d/o Kh Lukshaman of Mayang Imphal Konchak died in an accident at a place under Mayang Imphal PS.
These two accidents were reported to have occurred on March 23 .
P Joy of Kwakeithel died in an accident at a place under the jurisdiction of City PS while L Ratan of Changangei Makha Leikai passed away after meeting an accident under the Nambol PS.
Khwairakpam Gyaneshwar (58) of Kwakeithel Akham Leikai also died in an accident.
All the three incidents happened on March 25 .
The bodies have been claimed by their respective family members after post mortem at RIMS morgue during the Yaoshang festival.
At the same time, one case of unnatural death has been registered at JNIMS morgue.
The deceased is identified as Singara Nag (34) s/o Sukhuram Nag of Bundhi, Assam.
The 'unnatural death' incident reportedly occurred at a place under the jurisdiction of Moreh PS .
On the other hand, 79 Medico Legal cases have been registered at RIMS alone during the five day Yaoshang festival.
The cases included road accident, assault by unknown persons, assault under influence of alcohol and others.
More than 100 persons were reported to have been admitted at RIMS, JNIMS and other private hospitals with injury due to road accidents during the five-day long festival.
Imphal West District Traffic Police collected Rs 3,59,200 from various traffic rule breakers during the festival.
As part of the preventive measures, Imphal West District Traffic Police under the supervision of Additional SP (Traffic) Lalboi Haokip opened mobile traffic check posts in different parts of Imphal West district in collaboration with the district police.
Speaking exclusively to The Sangai Express, Additional SP (Traffic) Imphal West said that the drive to enforce various traffic rules was launched in collaboration with different police stations of Imphal West district.
Challan was issued to defaulters and traffic rule breakers during the drive.
He also said that the drive will continue further to check and control traffic rules in the State.
