Imphal, April 21 2015 :
Global Campaigner on Menstrual Hygiene Management Ch Urmila said on Tuesday that menstrual blood is not impure.
While interacting with the media persons at Manipur Press Club on the theme 'Breaking the Silence 2015; from shame to pride' Urmila said that there are many reasons behind the myths, taboos and stigma around menstruation which can be attributed to patriarchy and its agenda to thwart the aspirations of women using these myths.
Many communities around the world associate menstruation with impurity and defiling everything they regard as sacred.
Restrictions and bizarre regulations on women's everyday life and activities are common in all communities across the globe.
Women are barred from entering house, kitchen, jostle with other members of the family or pray in the temples.
They are not allowed to cook or eat with others or use the same utensils, plates, glasses, etc as others.
They are barred from worshipping, touching any items related to prayer.
She further said that Breaking the silence 2015; from shame to pride began in Manipur by kick starting at Khabam Makha Leikai on April 12, Keithelmanbi on April 16 .
The programmes at Karang and Kakcking will be held on April 23 and April 24 respectively.
