Drug committee volunteers attacked

Volunteers of Khumidok Sorok Mapal Anti-drug Committee came under violent attack from the family members of an alleged drug seller of Khumidok Mamang Leikai today morning.
Members of the committee said that acting on a specific information, two of their volunteers went to the house of Md Ithemba of Khumidok Mamang Leikai at around 10.30 am today.
When the two volunteers reached Ithemba's house, they saw two drug users coming out from the house after consuming SP capsules.
The two volunteers detained the drug abusers from whom seven SP capsules were seized.
After a few minutes, Ithemba came out from his house and questioned the committee volunteers who they are and why they detained the drug abusers.
The duo told Ithemba that they are volunteers of an antidrug committee.
After knowing the identity of the duo, Ithemba brought one of the volunteers inside his house and thrashed him there.
On seeing the violent act of Ithemba, another volunteer ran up to their office and informed the other members of the committee.
Later, a large number of committee members rushed to Ithemba's house to rescue their colleague.
However, the volunteers came under heavy violent attack from the family members of Ithemba as they not only rained stones on the committee volunteers but also fired two rounds from a double barrel gun.
Later, a large number of irate Khumidok locals and committee volunteers stormed the house and pulled up Ithemba along with the other family members.
The detained persons have been identified as Md Ithemba (38) s/o Abdul Rahaman, Md Rukudin (50) s/o Md Abdul Rahaman and his two sons Md Itomba (38) and Md Nanao (29), Md Imtiyas Khan (19) s/o Inder Rahaman, Noori w/ o Md Ithemba, Laila w/o Md Rukuddin of Khumidok Mamang Leikai.
All of them along with seized 100 SP capsules and 10 N-10 tablets were paraded before the media this afternoon before they were handed over to Heingang police station.
