Normal functioning of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) was totally paralysed due to the cease work strike of the faculty of the medical institute today Among other points, teachers' demands include termination of the incumbent Director-in-charge from his service.
Apart from suspension of classes, the institute witnessed a total halt of OPD and casualty services and routine operations today.
Association spokesperson Dr Jitendra said that they had highlighted their demands to the Chief Minister and president of JNIMS Society by submitting separate memoranda on March 25 .
He said that their charter of demands include promotion of senior doctors to suitable posts, appointment of permanent Director and Medical Superintendent after holding interviews in the right manner and sacking of the incumbent Director-in-charge M Shyamo from his service.
As the Government had failed to give any positive response within April 15, the teachers held another meeting on April 16 and submitted memoranda to the Chief Minister and JNIMS Society president again.
He said that the memoranda informed the Government that the teachers would resort to a cease work stir from April 21 if their demands are not fulfilled by
April 20 .
Dr Jitendra further said that the Medical Council of India has approved launching of PG courses in Biochemistry, Microbiology, Pharmacology and Pathology in JNIMS.
The Director-in-charge is however yet to submit a proposal report of launching PG courses in Anatomy, Forensic, Physiology and community medicine, he added.
The spokesperson further said that for the introduction of PG courses in clinical subjects like Medicine, Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Anaesthesia and Surgery, JNIMS must submit an application to MCI within April 30 .
