Imphal, April 21 2015 :
While applauding the safety measures taken up by the State Government in response to the outbreak of avian influenza in the State, MLA Th Shyamkumar insisted that the State Government should send a few samples to qualified laboratories for confirming the virus.
Speaking to some media persons at his official residence today, Shyamkumar said that there is no information about the outbreak of bird flu in any other part of Manipur or the neighbouring States.
The State Government too should send samples to qualified laboratories to confirm avian influenza virus.
This does not mean the report given by the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases is unauthentic.
Nonetheless, safety measures taken up by the Veterinary Department are satisfactory.
Outbreak of bird flu would turn out to be a serious setback to many poultry farmers of the State.
Thousands of unemployed youth have been working as poultry farmers to earn their livelihood, Shyamkumar said.
On the other hand, the location of ICAR regional centre is close to Manipur Zoological garden where different migratory birds flock from time to time and the area is also quite swampy, Shyamkumar noted.
He also urged the concerned departments to take up necessary precautionary and safety measures.
Shyamkumar Inspects Park .
After Santhel Park, another recreation park named Panam Ningthou Leikol is being developed at Andro, Imphal East district.
Local MLA Th Shyamkumar today made a direct assessment of the ongoing park development work.
Talking about the park's unique features, Shyamkumar said that the park is also a sacred site of lord Panam Ningthou where rare Cape Jasmine flowers grow in abundance.
Since human settlement started at Andro, these Cape Jasmines were also growing abundantly.
It's the flowering season for Cape Jasmines of Andro.
To develop the park as a popular tourist spot, the State's Tourism Department has forwarded a proposal of Rs 10 crore to the North Eastern Council (NEC).
As for the Santhel Park, the NEC has already sanctioned Rs 4.80 crore, Shyamkumar said.
