Ukhrul police rescue two teenagers bound for Chennai

Police on Saturday intercepted two teenagers, on suspected cases of being trafficked to Chennai, from a taxi stand at Viewland bazar in Ukhrul and handed them over to the district Child Welfare Committee (CWC).
On Saturday morning, police intercepted two teenagers, a minor girl (16) and teenaged boy (19), from a tourist taxi bound for Dimapur at Viewland bazar, Ukhrul, who were reportedly moving to Chennai without any legal guardians.
They were taken to the Ukhrul police station and later, handed them over to the CWC members in the afternoon.
The two teenagers, according to Ukhrul police, were stopped from proceeding towards Dimapur after receiving report of their doubtful movement.
On interrogation, the boy reportedly told police that he was going for Theological study while the young girl for undertaking training in electrical fittings in Chennai.
However, no credential documents were in their possession when the police rescued them from the taxi stand.
Both of them are currently residents of Wino Bazar, Ukhrul.
The 19-year old boy, hailing from Khunglo village, is said to have clear class 10 from National Open Schooling, while the 16-year old girl from Halang Aze village had appeared HSLC examination from a private school in Ukhrul.
CWC chairperson Ngathingpam Zimik informed that they were to be picked up by one Rosela, a Maram woman, at Dimapur and to be escorted to Chennai, where one Joyce will then take care of the two teenagers.
On interrogation, they informed the police and CWC that the parents have given them consent to move to Chennai.
However, suspicion cropped up as the boy's two younger brothers were rescued from Bangalore in 2013 .
Joyce, who hails from Halang village, is also suspected to have a hand in child trafficking case in which Ukhrul children were brought back from Bangalore last year.
Later in the evening, CWC members have handed the children to their respective parents after initiating proper undertaking.
