Dimapur, May 10 2014 :
Nine days after a Naga village elder was allegedly killed by Assam police along the Assam-Nagaland border, Naga villagers living in the area took out a rally here on Friday to condemn the Assam and Nagaland governments' inaction.
They also demanded justice for Subong-temjen, who was killed on April 30 .
The rally, organized by Frontal Integrated Ranges of Meranger and Sensolikum (FIRMS), saw hundreds of people blocking the road leading to the deputy commissioner's office where they demonstrated.
The protesters submitted a memorandum to the Nagaland commissioner and the chairman of the Nagaland Human Rights Commission, highlighting the border dispute and the toll it had taken on lives and property.
In the memorandum, FIRMS stated that the Lengri river had formed an undisputed boundary between Assam's Karbi Anglong and Nagaland's Dimapur.
It said a village situated in the range of Dikoi, which had been recognized by Nagaland as part of its territory, was being claimed by Assam's forest department.
The memorandum stated that people were being illegally arrested, detained, and killed by Assam's armed police.
It said the Nagaland government had not taken up the issue with Assam other than promulgating Section 144 of CrPC.
