Imphal, December 28 2021:
Communist Party of India (CPI), Manipur State Council would be organising the Chinga Summit (Meefam) observance at Irawat Bhawan on December 30 to commemorate the historic Chinga Summit of December 29 and 30, 1938 .
In a statement, CPI state secretary L Sotinkumar said that Hijam Irawat stood for the labour class and poor people and for their rights.
The Chinga Summit became a turning point in his life and he took the decision to fight for them politically after the summit, which unanimously elected Irawat as the president of Nikhil Hindu Manipuri Mahasabha.
Shortly after the summit, he resigned from being a Sadar Panchayat member and began his political journey keeping in mind the interest of poor people.
The Chinga Summit remained as a historic turning point in the modern Manipuri history and the need for understanding the importance of the summit is ever increasing in today's society.
Revisiting the summit and political scenario at that time is a must in order to bring a political change in the present day society and to root out corruption, crimes and violation of human rights among other issues concerning the society.
It will also help in understanding the vision, ideology and objective set by the late leader, he added.
