PIL seeks closure of illegal stone crusher units

A PIL has been filed at the High Court of Manipur seeking closure of an illegal stone crusher units operating at Moidangpok area of Imphal West district.
The PIL filied by one Thokchom Amumacha (55) as petitioner and the state of Manipur and 13 others as respondents said that Moidangpok is a village surrounded by paddy fields and agriculture is main occupation of the villagers.
Opening of seven stone crusher units illegally on paddy fields as per Factories Act, 1948 is not only affecting agricultural activities in the area but also the environment and causing pollution thereby risking lives of the local people, the PIL said and seek help of court in ensuring closure of these stone crusher units by directing the relevant authorities for doing the needful.
Clubs and organisations of Moidangpok area had repeatedly apprised relevant authorities about the matter and even submitted a memorandum to the chief minister but there has been no positive action till date.
