IMA assures vaccination help

Imphal, September 29 2021: Indian Medical Association (IMA) National president Dr JA Jayalal has assured to help the State Government in ensuring that all the people of the State are vaccinated against COVID-19.He was briefing the media at the IMA hall, Manipur State Branch, Lamphelpat today.

The IMA National president conveyed that he had discussed the matter of taking the vaccination drive to the people living in difficult terrain and hill areas with the Governor today and the latter reportedly assured him of providing Covid vaccines free of cost for the same task.

"The Government has assured to give Covid vaccines free of cost.

So the IMA will take up the vaccination drive along with the Government.

The IMA Headquarters at New Delhi is also allocating funds for taking up the vaccination project to the tribal people in hill areas and unreached people", he said.

Describing the doctors who died in fighting COVID pandemic as the real heroes of the country who sacrificed their lives in saving millions of people, Jayalal informed that the Governor has responded positively when he approached the Governor to declare the doctors who died in fighting COVID-19 pandemic in the State as the martyrs of the country and give solacium and compensation to them.

While remarking that the healthcare status in the State has improved considerably, the IMA president appealed to the State Government and the Governor to establish more medical colleges in the State for producing more indigenous doctors and providing better healthcare facilities to the people.

Claiming that encouraging Medical Tourism is one of the demands of IMA, Jayalal asserted that he took up the matter of Myanmarese people seeking healthcare in Manipur to the knowledge of the Governor.

"The State Government must reduce restrictions on the movement of Myanmarese people who seek healthcare facilities in Manipur so that they can come to the State and receive the same facility, cutting across the border", Jayalal continued.

He also stated that the matter will be taken to the Central Health Ministry.

The IMA always stands for the holistic healthcare of the people and has no confrontation with any traditional system of medicine, he said, adding that the medical association wants all systems of medicines to thrive together and complement each other.

However, he stated that the different systems of medicines should not be mixed up.

IMA honorary National Secretary General Dr Jayesh Lele was also present at the press briefing.

Later an interaction programme between the IMA, National executive members, young doctors and IMA members was held at the same venue.
