Free rice, LPG connection provided under PMGKAY, PMUY

Kangpokpi, April 21 2022:
Department of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (CAF&PD), Kangpokpi district supply officer (DSO) distributed free rice to the beneficiaries under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) during a function held at the multi-purpose hall here on Tuesday.
Free LPG connections were also provided to the beneficiaries under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) during the function which was organised as a part of the celebration of 75th Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and also as an initiative under the state government's 100 Days Action Plan.
Speaking at the event, Kangpokpi deputy commissioner Kengoo Zuringla explained that PMGKAY is food welfare scheme is a vital component of Atmanirbhar Bharat, which aims to ensure supply of free food grains to migrants and poor people.
While urging the ration and Antyodaya Anna Yojana card holders to avail the food grains through the public distribution system, she also asserted that the district administration is committed to ensure that no poor or vulnerable person or household goes hungry.
In his address, DSO Kangpokpi Vahneilhing Singson said that PMGKAY is a food security welfare scheme under the Union Ministry of CAF & PD which was launched on March 26,2020 with the objective of mitigating hardships encountered by the poor as a result of disruptions caused to normal chores due to Covid-19 pandemic.
She mentioned that under the scheme, all National Food Security Act (NFSA) beneficiaries are entitled to get 5 kg of free food grain every month.
PMGKAY is a unique scheme to combat the effects of Covid pandemic on the poor of the country, she further conveyed.
It may be mentioned here that the Centre on March 26 approved for the extension of PMGKAY by six months till September 2022.PMGKAY scheme was earlier scheduled to end in March 2022.Under the extended PMGKAY, each beneficiary will get additional 5 kg free ration per person per month in addition to the normal quota of food grains under NFSA.
