Imphal, May 12 2021:
Representatives of All Manipur IOCL Retail Outlet Dealers' Association on Wednesday met Chief Minister N Biren Singh and urged him to recognise petrol pump staff, tanker drivers and LPG home delivery service providers as frontline workers and vaccinate them at the earliest.
According to Association's general secretary Ningombam Mohendro Meitei, the CM assured of organising a vaccination programme for petroleum product drivers, retail outlet staff and LPG distributors.
Speaking to newspersons after meeting the CM, Mohendro pointed out that petrol pump staff, tanker drivers, distributors, and LPG home delivery service providers are working hard to ensure uninterrupted supply of petroleum products to the government, various organisations and to the general populace amid the pandemic.
The state government had imposed lockdown and curfew to contain the spread of the virus, while further issuing strict instructions for ensuring uninterrupted supply of petroleum and LPG products.
For this purpose, they have been categorised as essential service providers and their movement has been exempted from the purview of the lockdown/curfew.
As such, those belonging to this sector are working in high-risk situations.
Thus, the CM was urged to recognise them as frontline workers and commence a vaccination programme for them at the earliest, Mohendro conveyed.
Citing the CM's announcement of recognising the journalists of the state as frontline workers and launching a vaccination programme for the same regardless of age, the general secretary iterated the demand to give the same recognition to the people who are working tirelessly for ensuring petroleum products to the people of the state.
If the drivers, retail outlet staff and LPG drivers were to halt their services, it would be a huge inconvenience to the government and the people, Mohendro made it clear, while adding that a memorandum in this regard was also submitted to the CM .
