Jain community to celebrate Daslakshan festival

Imphal, August 29 2022:
Jain community in the state will join other Jains across the globe in celebrating Daslakshan festival from August 31 to September 9 which emphasises on self-purification.
In a release, Jain Vikas Mandal, Imphal stated that Jains adhere to 10 universal virtues like forgiveness, contentment and self-restraint for ten consecutive days every year.
This is the festival through which an attempt is made to put an end to all vices, passions and lustful desires in thought, speech and action.
During the 10 days of festivity, Jains observe fast in various forms and give alms, renounce certain things and strictly observe the principles of the festival.
Each day of the festival has its own importance and is observed as Days of Supreme Forgiveness, Tenderness & Humility, Straight-forwardness & Honesty, Contentment & Purity, Truthfulness, Self-restraint, Penance & Austerities, Renunciation, Non-attachment and Chastity and Celibacy respectively, it informed.
The release further conveyed that two days after the last day of Daslakshan festival, Digambara Jains celebrate 'Kshamavani' (Forgiveness Day) as a day of forgiving and seeking forgiveness for the Jains.
