Imphal East rack up 18 gold in Athletics

Imphal, August 29 2022:
Imphal East athletes dominated the athletic track at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium to gather a staggering total of 18 gold, 9 silver and 6 bronze medals till Day 4 of the 2nd Manipur Olympic Games.
Imphal West are meanwhile in the second spot with a lowly 8 gold, 9 silver and 8 bronze medals so far as Thoubal follow closely with 7 gold, 6 silver and 13 bronze medals.
Day 4 highlights
H Ngaopulou of Senapati clinched the 10,000 m race gold for men taking 32 minutes and 55.37 seconds as Imphal West's L Sanajaoba (33:10.35) and S Manaobi (34:21.92) settled for the silver and bronze medals.
In the 10,000 m race for women, IW's T Russia won the gold finishing the course in 42 minutes 15.78 seconds while T Sophia of Bpr (44: 28.25) and IW's Th Maria (46:36.26) bagged silver and bronze medals.
M Alken of Kakching won the men's 110 m Hurdles gold taking 14.72 seconds as Md Abdul Kalam of Thoubal (19.19 sec) and L Shepou of Senapati (24.65 sec) finished second and third.
A Anjita on the other hand won the women's 100 m Hurdles race taking 19.44 seconds to finish ahead of Thoubal's Mk Khalida (24.05 sec) and Y Jasmine (25.13 sec) .
In the 400 m final, Longjam Manglemba of Imphal East took 50.45 seconds to win the gold as Oinam Sanajaoba of Kakching (50.80 sec) and N Jonhson of Bishnupur (51.30 sec) secured the second and third places.
Thoubal's S Nganthoi won the women's high jump gold by recording 1.43 m jump as W Juanita of IW (1.30 m) and Kh Omila of Thoubal (1.30 m) finished second and third.
L Mangansana of Thoubal cleared 1.68 m to win the men's high jump gold as Taiba Boniface of Senapati (1.65 m) and Nimaichand A of IE (1.62 m) bagged silver and bronze medals.
In the women's 400 m race, Chingulembi won IE a gold with 1:4.68 mark as IW's L Velinda (1:9.21) and Maryna Golmei (1:11.62) finished second and third.
Mk Khalida on the other hand added one more gold medal to Thoubal's tally by taking 13:19 in the 3000 m Steeplechase.
Th Maria of IW (12:23) and Y Jasmine of Thoubal (16:11) finished second and third in the competition.
Meanwhile, men's 3000 m Steeplechase title went to W Rohit of Bishnupur who take 10 minutes and 38 seconds while Soshim Soro of Ukhrul (10:49) and Bikashnanda of Bishnupur (10:54) secured silver and bronze medals.
