All Zeliangrong Students' Union, AZSU, (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) president, T Henry Chawang; Zeliangrong Youth Front, ZYF, (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) president, M Lunglailung; All Zeliangrong Arts and Culture, president Poudongai Kamson; Zeliangrong Baudi, ZB, (Manipur) president, Poupoklung Kamei and Zeliangrong Baudi (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) vice-president, Titus Kamei addressed the gathering on this occasion.
According to the statement, the speakers mainly dwelt on the philosophy and ideology of the great leader who had a strong determination and mobilized the people and launched a strong people's resistance movement against the colonial rule of the British in order to free his people.
In a bid to put an end to Jadonang's Zeliangrong movement, the colonial administration wrongly implicated him on an unrelated murder charge and hung him to death on August 29, 1931 at the banks of Nambul river near Imphal Central Jail, it added.
On this occasion, Zeliangrong Civil Organisations (ZCOs) have appealed to all to understand the philosophy and ideology of "Jadonang" rather than paying mere respect and honour on his Martyr Day.
Further, ZCOs have urged the Govt to allocate a specific amount of funds to ZCOs to organise the martyrdom anniversary in a grand manner every year.
The ZCOs have also strongly appealed to the Govt of Manipur to feel the pulse of the people and consider the background of Zeliangrong people in particular whose villages have been in existence centuries ago especially in the foothills and mole hills peripheries to valley districts of the State.
Issuing show cause notice with threats of eviction to Zeliangrong villages located in the peripheries of valley districts on the ground of encroachment lack logic, the statement asserted.
The Government should navigate a way for the people in these villages to live peacefully like any other citizen of the State, the statement urged.
Separately, the Sangaiprou Kabui Youth Organisation (SKYO) also observed the 91st Martyrdom Anniversary of Haipou Jadonang today at the campus of SKYO in Sangaiprou.
In a statement, SKYO shared that the gathering paid a floral tribute to a photo of Haipou Jadonang as a mark of honour and respect.
Following this, the Sangaiprou Women Society presented a patriotic song while Medilane organised a free eye check up camp.
