SAI-NERC, CRPF, AR celebrate National Sports Day

Imphal, August 29 2022:
SAI NERC, Imphal today observed the National Sports Day which is held annually on August 29 in honour of one of the India's finest hockey players, Major Dhyan Chand (birth anniversary) .
SAI NERC Regional Director, Francis Marwein led SAI employees and athletes in paying tributes to Major Dhyan Chand who is also known as the "Hockey Wizard" during the celebration, said SAI NERC in a release.
The contributions of the late Hockey star were also recalled at the occasion, the release added.

A football match between SAI employees was also held in connection with the celebration at SAI Turf Football Ground before an exhibition football amongst Blind School Boys ensued, it added.
Later in the day, more fun games were organised before Major Dhyan Chand Trophy was handed to football winners, the release continued.
CRPF celebrates National Sports Day with a mini Marathon
The 86 Battalion CRPF also celebrated National Sports Day today at Unit HQs Lamphelpat with the aim to foster the spirit of fitness and sports amongst all.
The celebration under the supervision of Mohd Yusuf, Commandant 86 Battalion CRPF was held in line with the Government of India's 'Fit India Mission' initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 29, 2019, said a statement issued by the Commandant 86 Battalion.
A mini-marathon was organised as a part of the celebration which showed participation by unit officers and personnel of the battalion followed by volleyball matches.
All the officers and personnels of the battalion also took a 'Fitness Pledge' to spread awareness about sports in particular and fitness in general.
AR observes National Sports Day, organises volleyball matches
Assam Rifles too observed 'National Sports Day' at various units and battalions under the aegis of IGAR (South) today.
Khuga Battalion (Churachandpur), Modi Battalion (Tengnoupal/Chandel), Loktak Battalion and Moreh Battalion organised friendly volleyball matches with locals of their respective areas to mark the day, said PRO IGAR (S) in separate releases.
Sports kits were also distributed as a part of the observation at Moreh and Machi village, the releases added.
