Befitting tributes paid to Haipou Jadonang

NONEY: The 91st death anniversary of Haipou Jadonang was observed widely as Martyr's Day in all Zeliangrong inhabited areas of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland and other parts of the country on Monday.
At his birthplace Puiluanh (Kambiron) in Noney district, the observance was organised by Haipou Jadonang Memorial Trust and was marked by paying of rich floral tribute and remembrance of the mystic leader by telling his life story.
A similar programme was organised by Khoupum Area Village Authority Council (KAVAC) at Khoupum sub-divisional headquarters with Hill Areas Committee (HAC) chairman Dinganglung Gangmei alias Dipu Gangmei present as chief guest.
As part of the event, he also unveiled the statue of Haipou Jadonang near Khoupum SDO office.
Various cultural programmes including Haipou Jadonang Parade were performed by artistes at the event.
Meanwhile, Haipou Jadonang Memorial Committee in collaboration with various civil society organisations observed the death anniversary at multipurpose hall, Tamenglong district headquarters with Tamenglong MLA Janghemlung Panmei as chief guest.
On the other hand, Zeliangrong Union Tamenglong Zone observed the commemorative event at Jadonang Memorial Park, Tamenglong by paying floral tributes to the photo of the leader.
As a mark respect and in honour of the freedom fighter, lighting of candles at every doorstep and in bazars in all Zeliangrong inhabited areas of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland was done by the people of Zeliangrong community.
SENAPATI: Zeliangrong Union, Zeliangrong Women Union and Zeliangrong Students' Union, Senapati zone jointly observed the 91st death anniversary of freedom fighter Haipou Jadonang at Maram secretariat, Senapati on Monday.
As a part of the tribute event, Zeliangrong Students' Union, Senapati Zone president Gabriel Chawang gave a brief life-sketch of the late freedom fighter Jadonang Malangmei, popularly known as Haipou Jadonang, and who was a Naga spiritual leader and political leader fighting for freedom of his people from the clutches of British colonial rule.
Jadonang began establishing an army, "Riphen" that comprised 500 men and women who were well trained in military tactics, weaponry and reconnaissance missions.
However, he was arrested in 1931 by the British officials on the charges of sedition and was hanged till death under the false charges of murder, Gabriel said.
Zeliangrong Union, Senapati zone president Ng Luikang Chawang stated that the freedom fighter started the "No tax" movement in the land and challenged the British regime.
Senapati additional SP ML Kaisungbou pointed out that the story of Haipou Jadonang was not studied unlike the stories of Bir Tikendrajit, Thangal General and others who were hanged by the British for waging war against them.
Different CSO leaders from Senapati paid floral tributes to the departed freedom fighter as a part of the observance.
