Speaking as a resource person, subject matter specialist (agronomy) Nandini Chongtham informed that Parthenium Weed is commonly found in USA and Australian.
The invasive plant was first detected in India in 1965 .
After the plant was further detected in 36 million hectares of land in the country, it was found growing along the national highways and playground of Manipur.
"This invasive plant is extremely poisonous to humans and can cause asthma, cough, allergy and other ailments.
Birds and animals that consume or come in contact with the plant suffer low milk production and other diseases.
The infected milk could also affect humans", she said while stressing the need for mass destruction of the plant.
KVK Imphal East coordinator Soram Monibala also attended the programme during which the farmers were made aware of effects of the plant species and necessary pesticides distributed to them to prevent further spread of the weed.
