Imphal, August 19 2021:
Manipur Drivers' Association (MDA) has lamented that the truckers engaged for transporting rice are having a hard time due to the delay in unloading the consignment at FCI warehouse in Churachandpur.
The Association said that truckers who had reached at warehouse in between August 10 to 13 are barred from offloading the goods for reason yet to be specific.
On Thursday, a team of MDA visited the warehouse and assessed the inconveniences faced by the drivers.
Speaking with regard to the visit, Association general secretary Sanjay Kshetrimayum informed that the drivers asked MDA to look into the matter after they were denied permission to unload their cargo for over a week.
During the visit, the team found that officials of FCI were not present at the warehouse even after 2pm.Despite assurances to unload the rice the same has not been translated into action, he said and urged the authority concerned to look into the matter.
Meanwhile, the drivers are being charged Rs 2000-2500 as labour as well as weightage costs while unloading the rice.
Thus, the general secretary demanded the depot manager of the FCI warehouse in Chura chandpur to clarify on the matter at the earliest.
The drivers present at the Churachandpur FCI facility also urged the authority concerned to allow offloading the rice as soon as possible.
