Imphal, September 13 2021:
While commenting that "boiled vegetables cannot substitute as the main dish for a long time"; Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president N Loken has stated that as the people have now "tasted" the BJP government, it is inevitable for the Congress party to return to power in the upcoming Assembly elections in 2022 .
MPCC on Sunday welcomed N Helendro, who contested the Assembly polls in 2017 as an independent candidate, into the party during a reception function held at Congress Bhawan here on Sunday.
Speaking at the event, Loken contended that Congress will defeat BJP in the upcoming polls in 2022, considering the latter's failure to catch up to one-third of the achievements made during Congress' reign of 15 years, in the last 4 years.
People are well aware that the BJP acts differently to what it says will do, he remarked.
"The government has gagged the media and people of the state and as such, what the people are desperately waiting for is the toppling of the ruling government.
The polls in 2022 will serve as a lesson to the ruling government.
So far, the people are unable to voice dissent as they know the government will dispatch police to arrest dissenters, while at the same time proclaiming itself to be advocate of good governance.
However, once the Code of Conduct comes into effect, the BJP government will receive the appropriate response to all its tall claims," he said, and urged the people of the state to support the return of Congress government in the state.
Loken continued: "Before the 2017 elections', various union ministers visited the state and spoke about development.
However, the present status of the Secretariat complex, market project at the erstwhile Tombisana High School complex, ISBT and other important projects, which were taken up during the Congress government, is questionable.
Almost all of the projects are based in the valley Jtrea.
If the valley-based projects cannot be even completed till date, one need not wonder much about the projects based in the hill districts".
The MPCC president then said that efforts will be made to ensure BJP is unable to raise its head in the upcoming polls.
The BJP-led NDA government will also collapse in the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, he claimed.
Loken also informed that around 19 political parties will be staging protests from September 20 to 30 against the price hike of goods, anti-farmer bills and other key issues.
In his speech, Ningombam Helendro expressed his elation on being able to join a national party like INC, while recounting that he contested the last election as an independent candidate due to lack of opportunity to join the Congress.
He then expressed belief that Congress will be able to form the government after the Assembly elections in 2022, while further expressing conhdence that he would be able to assist in the same as a representative of Yaiskul AC.
The function was attended by CLP leader O Ibobi, senior politicians Gaikhangam, TN Haokip, DD Jhaisii; MPCC working president K Meghachandra and MLA Alfred among others.
