Second wave fatality reaches 30 in Thoubal
Imposition of curfew severely impacting denizens, goods price hiked

Thoubal, May 13 2021:
The second wave of COVID-19 has taken lives of 30 people in Thoubal district while 318 people have contracted the virus so far since March 20 .
Of the total positive cases, 41 people have recovered, a report of Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), Thoubal said, adding that COVID-19 account in the district was opened by Moulana Abdul Rahaman of Lilong Turel Ahanbi on March 31, 2020 and a total of 2538 people have been confirmed COVID-19 positive till March 14 this year.
Of the 2538 positive cases in the first wave, 50 succumbed to the virus while 2488 people have recovered.
The report also said that the second wave of COVID-19 in the district was felt for the first time on March 20 and the total confirmed cases in the district reached 2856 so far.
Among them, 80 have succumbed to the disease while 2529 have recovered and 247 people undergoing treatment.
Among the active cases, 100 are currently lodged at GNMA School of Nursing building at Thoubal district hospital and 10 are undergoing treatment at isolation ward of district hospital.
Another 46 active cases are lodged currently at Community Home Isolation Centres opened at Khangabok, Wangjing Tentha and Heirok while the rest of the active cases are currently at RIMS, Bal Bhawan (Khuman Lampak) and JNIMS Covid Care Centre.
Meanwhile, normal life in Thoubal district continues to be affected severely since the imposition of curfew on May 8.People are experiencing lots of difficulties in trying to get essential commodities including vegetables.
Unlike the lockdown imposed during the first wave of COVID-19, the ongoing curfew gives no relaxation even for few hours for people to purchase essential commodities and thus causes more suffering to the people.
Shops in the localities too hiked prices of essential commodities and there is no one to look after this.
Closure of ATMs and banks also give severe impact as people could not do any financial transaction or withdraw money.
Meanwhile, district police are keeping strict vigil against curfew violators and collecting fine from violators at different parts of the district.
