Imphal, May 13 2021:
The United Progressive Adults' Association (UPAA) has refuted the charge levelled by the United Club Coordinating Committee (UCCOC) that the escort of a certain MLA and volunteers of Kiyamgei Khagee Club (KCC) harassed innocent commuters in the pretence of a drive against drug abuse.
A statement issued by UPAA said that the charge levelled by UCCOC is a sheer attempt to smear the image of the MLA and Kiyamgei Khagee Club.
Saying that KKC has been conducting a drive against drug abuse and the same was carried out on May 1 and 5, he alleged that two individuals namely Md Tarique and Md Shahid of Kiyamgei Muslim were stopped for flouting SOPs for COVID-19 on May 5 .
The unfortunate incident of May 5 transpired as the duo threatened the club volunteers using a gun and a blade, it claimed.
The association further alleged Md Tarique had a history of obstructing road levelling work at Kiyamgei Muslim Awang Leikai and for that, an FIR was filed against him at Irilbung police station.
UPAA then appealed to all concerned to refrain from spreading fabricated news in the media.
