Kpi town lockdown extended, district's active cases surge

Kangpokpi, May 12 2021:
In an effort to contain the spread of Covid-19 second wave, various organisations based in Kangpokpi town have announced extension of the total lockdown in Kangpokpi district headquarters till May 20 .
Under the aegis of Kangpokpi Town Committee, the local bodies had on May 7 imposed a weeklong lockdown.
However, considering the continuous upsurge in the number of positive cases in the district, the headquarter town in particular the civil societies decided to persist with the lockdown after a consultative meeting with members of Kangpokpi CSO COVID Task Force held the office of Kangpokpi Town Committee on Wednesday.
Government offices and persons/personnel engaged in emergency and essential services would be exempted from the purview of the lockdown.
Meanwhile, with detection of 17 new positive cases and discharge of three recovered patients in last 24 hours, the caseload in Kangpokpi district stood at 92.Regardless of the total lockdown causing inconvenience to the public, the virus containment efforts have been generating positive response from many denizens.
One town folk said that owing to the total lockdown many hardships and grievances may crop up especially among the daily wagers like himself, but, everybody should tolerate the inconvenience as effective containment of the contagion will ultimately make all safe and enable resumption of normal chores.
He also expressed hope that the town authority, district officials and generous individuals would extend assistance to the suffering commoners.
