Speaking at the event, WMC Manipur president Urikhinbam Kunjo informed .
that WMC is a non-religious and non-political organisation aimed at bringing together the Meetei community spread across the globe.
It is a platform for Meeteis living in different parts of the world to share their experience, help one another and fight for a common cause.
The council also joins in facing social issues concerning Meetei com munity from time to time.
Observing that Meeteis, despite its majority tag, lives in only about 5 to 6 per cent of the state's total geographical area, Kunjo pointed out that there is no constitutional safeguard for the community, its land and resources.
The community receives the biggest threat from uncontrolled influx of non-locals including illegal immigrants.
Considering the current trend, there is high possibility of Meetei disappearing into oblivion in a few decades' time, he said and added that ST status is the only viable solution to this situation which is why WMC supports the movement being spearheaded by STDCM.
MLA Rameshwar said that communication gap and disregard for one another within the Meetei community are some of the main reasons behind the downfall of the community.
There is a strong need to promote the culture and traditions while at the same time strive to bring together the Meetei community under a common platform.
He appreciated WCM for bringing about such a platform.
Cultural and traditional programmes were also presented by different troupes on the occasion.
