Diabetes treatment, research centre inaugurated

A new healthcare centre named Diabetes Healthcare and Research Centre set up at Porompat JNIMS Road has been inaugurated on Sunday by All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) president Wangkhemcha Shamjai as the chief guest.
Speaking at the inauguration programme, Shamjai urged the centre to ensure compassionate service to people who seek treatment for diabetes.
With reference to a report that 45 per cent of the population suffer from diabetes, he said that the centre equipped with facility for treatment without side effect will bring significant change to the state's healthcare scenario and help in development of the health sector.
Shamjai also stressed on the need for both government and private healthcare centres to shoulder the responsibility of reducing the rate of fatality by diabetic patients.
According to the Centre's managing director Dr M Dhanabir, after thorough research about the local medicinal plants, it is found that 95 per cent of the diabetes patients could be treated with the plants.
Moreover, as every family has at-least a diabetic patient and the death rate due to it is on the rise, the centre has been set up to cure and treat the patients, he affirmed.
The inaugural function was also attended by Airport Advisory Committee member of International Airport AC Jayenta among others.
