Imphal, January 29 2023:
The Indigenous Development Mission (IDM) has reacted sharply against the naming of a locality as Vaiphei Veng at Lamlongei, Mantripukhri and demanding taxes from every household of the locality by Vaiphei Veng Welfare Committee (VVWC) .
A press release issued by IDM said that establishment of Vaiphei Veng at Lamlongei is unacceptable and the name should never be used under any circumstances.
Further stating that VVWC must tender an apology for taking taxes from the indigenous people at Lamlongei and asking for land documents from them, IDM asserted that they will take the undertaking as a challenge to the Meitei populace if VVWC ignores the ultimatum.
Claiming that VVWC was formed by a group of people who started settling at Mantripukhri Lamlongei by purchasing a few pari (Manipuri unit of land measurement) of land, the IDM said that this VVWC allegedly demanding house taxes and land documents from the indigenous people is uncalled for 'and it is suspected to be done under the instigation of some foreign Nationals' .
Saying that they take such acts of high handedness as a direct challenge to the indigenous people, the IDM claimed that establishment of a locality and naming it as Vaiphei Veng at Lamlongei to distort the history of Manipur is unacceptable.
It also said that Lamlongei is a village recognised by the Revenue Department and thanked the State Government for arresting two persons in connection with the issue at Lamlongei.
IDM appealed to the State Government to also arrest the person (s) who played a key role in the establishment of Vaiphei Veng.
Claiming that foreigners from the neighbouring country have been messing in the affairs of the State since the past many years by encroaching on land, hindering developmental activities etc, IDM said that they have seen evidence of foreigners setting up villages in other parts of the State too.
Stating that a collective effort from the State Government and the indigenous people is needed to protect Manipur from the 'narco-demographic war of the foreigners,' IDM claimed that there will be another seven year devastation if 'we are not mindful of the developing scenario' .
Appealing to all Manipur to never sell even a piece of land to the foreigners, IDM elaborated that selling lands to the foreigners will create bigger problems in future.
IDM also appealed to all foreigners settling in Manipur to return to their native country and refrain from interfering in the affairs of the State.
Saying that there might be more foreign Nationals who entered Manipur illegally, IDM urged the State Government to identify them (foreign National) and take up appropriate measures to ensure no more foreigners enter the
State illegally.
