Religious leaders urged to preach harmony

Social welfare minister Heikham Dingo has stated that religious leaders have a huge role to play in maintaining communal harmony among the indigenous communities of the state.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of 'Sonam Lochar' festival held at AR Colony, Kanglatongbi on Sunday, minister Dingo called upon every community to preserve own tradition, culture and identity.
Every religion teaches love and brotherhood as such one must spread the message of love and peace among the various communities of the state.
If people cannot live in harmony with each other then they are not following the teachings of their respective religion, he observed.
Dingo also maintained that the country is emerging as a major power in the world under the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas'.
Based on this, chief minister N Biren has been leading the government in bringing uniform development in the hills and in the valley, he conveyed, while appealing to people of various religious affinity to support the government in this endeavour.
As part of the programme, minister H Dingo also laid the foundation stone of Tamang Buddhist Monastery.
The festival was also attended by Buddhist religious leaders and villagers and was marked by various cultural performances.
