"Charang-naba" performed; lack of Govt attention on art & culture highlighted

A play titled "Charang-naba (Anxiety)" produced by Raag Tarang Mandal (RTM) under Cultural Function and Production Grant Scheme (CFPGS), Ministry of Culture was shown today at the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy, (JNMDA) Imphal.
Speaking as the chief guest of the function, Pukhrambam Bilash, Director, JNMDA stated that through the performance of a play, the audience can immediately connect with the performing artistes.
"Dramas/plays have the capacity to make people content or laugh out loud", he said.
He maintained that dramas can also depict the positive and negative sides of political issues and provide the audience with valuable messages.

Stating that those in the field of drama/theatre must have poured their efforts in promoting their art, he also highlighted the lack of national and international opportunities these people have faced.
Aside from this, he mainatined that if all manners of art and culture of the State are adequately promoted and receive their due recognition then a peaceful Manipur can be attained.
Delivering the presidential speech, Dr Lamabam Gojendra, president, Critics Forum Manipur stated that political leaders and State Government have time and again reiterated that sports and arts and culture act as identifiers of Manipur.
In this regard, the State Government has poured their efforts to further develop the sports sector.
However, due to lack of Government attention, arts and culture in Manipur is deteriorating and going on a downward trajectory, he opined.
G Dharmadas Sharma, Deputy Director, Department of Art and Culture also graced the function as the guest of honour.
