Imphal, August 06 2021: Apunba Loumi Lup, Thoubal district has urged for distribution of fertilizer meant for farmers of Thoubal and Kakching districts in accordance to the size of their paddy fields.

In a statement, the farmers' body urged the agriculture minister and the department concerned to look into the ongoing distribution of fertilizer to the farmers.

In Thoubal district's context, of the 10,000 bags of fertiliser provided, 4000 bags were distributed to Kakching for the first phase, while for the second phase, 8000 bags were allotted to Thoubal district by the DC of which 2000 were distributed to Kakching, which is questionable.

In the second phase of distribution, a system was adopted to distribute the fertiliser through the EO circles of the SDC and the Agriculture Department, which is appreciated, the farmers' body said.

Urging for uniform distribution, the Lup questioned the phase status of the fertiliser being distributed through the DC concerned.

It also sought clarity over when the remaining quantity would be distributed.

"The Lup wishes for the Agriculture department to execute its duties sincerely without following the whims or temporary systems set by consecutive government or ministers concerned", it contended, while urging for formulation of a long term policy in the farmers' interests.
