Imphal, August 29 2020: The 'misunderstanding' which created tension among the locals of Salungpham and Rimpam village is very unfortunate and both the villages should work together towards fostering peaceful coexistence and harmony, said the All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) today.

Calling on all for peace and mutual understanding, AMUCO, in a statement said that its president Pheiroijam Nando Luwang along with volunteers of MSF (Manipuri Students' Federation) including its president, Bhuiyamayum Sajad visited the villages yesterday and pacified the villagers for an amicable solution and maintaining peace.

It may be noted that a scuffle broke out reportedly between the locals of the two villages due to an alleged land related issue on August 28 .

A few persons on both sides reportedly suffered injuries and following the incident, Machi Police registered a case and Section 144 was imposed to control unwanted flare-ups.

"The State is currently facing an unprecedented health crisis due to COVID-19 and people are facing the brunt of the pandemic.

At this juncture, we should not add more to the woes of the people.

Big or small, a 'misunderstanding' has the po- tential of turning into a larger issue fuelled by unchecked rumours.

There- fore, locals of Salungpham and Rimpam village should forget and forgive each other and restore mutual trust", said AMUCO.

Acknowledging that both the villages may have valid claims and documents to prove their respective positions, AMUCO noted that if both the parties do not stand down and refuse to work out a viable solution, there would be more and more hatred for each other in the future.

Both the villages should sit down and work out an acceptable solution for maintaining peace and harmony in the area.

AMUCO will provide all necessary assistance and support in reaching such an agreement, it said.

AMUCO then noted that approaching the Court for a solution may have adverse impacts on the relationship between parties concerned.

When one party may be happy about their win in the Court, the other party may become thirsty for revenge.

Such a situation may sow seeds of hatred and deepen their antagonism against each other.

To avoid this and promote love and peace, all parties concerned should reconciliate and bring about an amicable solution, said AMUCO.

It further opined that both the villages should not try to prove each other wrong but understand each other and work towards strengthening the bond of love between them.

If both the villages try to prove each other right and their superiority, then it may give rise to "communal tension" which is the worst disease of all, said AMUCO appealing for peace and harmony.

The committee also urged all concerned not to politicise such issues and appealed to the Government to take up all necessary steps and sensitise its officers concerned to ensure no such conflicts arise in the future.
