Imphal, August 29 2020:
The United Tribal People's Council Manipur (UTPCM), has said that the body endorses and supports the demands of the three tribal student bodies, ATSUM, ANSAM and KSO-GHQ regarding the utilization of teachers, filling up of vacant posts of teaching and non-teaching staff; service regularization of contract teachers etc.
in hill areas.
A statement of UTPCM said that the body will participate in the agitation or any other course of action taken up by ATSUM, ANSAM and KSO-GHQ if the State government fails to translate the assurance given by the latter within August 31 .
As per the sources, these tribal student bodies have given 31 August as a dateline for fulfilling various demands they raised in 2019, the statement said.
The demands of the student bodies include the issue of shortage of teaching and non-teaching staff in the hill schools; the problem of utilization of teachers from the schools of the hill districts in valley districts; regularisation of contract teachers of 2006 batch; demand for recruitment of MIL lecturers for Tribal dialects; upgradation of some high schools to higher secondary; regularisation of ad-hoc teachers; filling up of ST backlog/shortfall post for Assistant Professors in Government colleges; opening of Science stream in Tamenglong and Tadubi colleges; opening of BEd centres in the hill districts; filling up 32 vacant posts in TA & Hills; recruitment of Primary Teachers in Autonomous District Councils; filling up of backlog ST posts of various categories in JNIMS, etc among others, the statement continued.
These are all genuine demands and were agreed by the Chief Minister but has failed to materialize the assurances, it said.
Denouncing the Government for taking away specialized doctors from the hill districts during the lockdown, UTPCM further stated that the State Government's apathy and lukewarm attitude towards the genuine demands of the tribal populace are unjust and would result in many undesirable effects.
