6 BRTF labourers killed, more than 20 injured in mishap

Tamenglong, June 19 2014:
At least six labourers including two women died and more than 20 others sustained injuries when a vehicle of the died Border Road Task Force (BRTF) in which they were travelling fell into deep gorge along NH- 37 between Irang (Taobam) and Khongsang (Sangrung) village of Tamenglong district late afternoon today.
The deceased were identified as Kapeijan w/o Pantilung of Reangpang village; Ringdiliu w/o Ramthaingam of Reangpang village; Thonkulung s/o Ajaina, Thangonglung s/o Pousinglung, both residents of Sangrung (Khongsang) village; Mairangthen, husband of Ningkhamliu of Kangbianpang (Shantikhullen) and one Gabriel of Ranchi (non local) presently residing at Nungba.
More than twenty labourers were reportedly injured in the incident, some of them seriously, but the details of the injured could not be confirmed till the time of filing this report.
Personnel of 13 Assam Rifles, 143 CRPF, Police and local people from Taobam (Irang) village and Khongsang helped in evacuating the injured victims.
The accident occurred at around 4:45 pm, at spot 2 km away from Taobam (Irang) village toward Khongsang village on NH- 37 .
The labourers were returned from Taobam (Irang) village when the BRTF vehicle fell into the gorge while trying to give side to loaded trucks coming from Jiribam toward Imphal.
Four of the labourers, two male and two female, died on the spot while two others on the way to Imphal for treatment.
The injured were given first aid at 13 Assam Rifles posted at Khongsang village before they were evacuated to Imphal.
