Tobacco items disposed off

Imphal, April 09 2015 :
Officials of Customs Division, Imphal disposed off tobacco items worth Rs 6,13,487 by setting it on fire at Central Revenue complex, Lamphelpat today.
Assistant Commissioner, SP (Disposal) and SP (Technical) of Customs Division, Imphal were present at the occasion, which was held with the permission from Customs Division, Shillong.
SP (Disposal) Th Madhai said that large quantity of tobacco items, seized under 18 different cases from different parts of the State between 2011 and 2014 were disposed off.

80 per cent of these tobacco items were brought in from Myanmar, he said and added that large chunk of these items were impounded from Moreh, Pallel and Imphal.
The seized items include 2165 cartons of different brands of cigarette, brought in from Myanmar, 240 pieces of Daiblo beer, 2160 pieces of Golden Tobacco (India) and 723.4 kg of betel nuts, brought in from Myanmar.
Th Madhai further said that apart from these tobacco items, 27 kg of rice and 20 kg of rajma, seized in connection with a precious stone smuggling case, were also set on fire.
