Imphal, March 27 2022:
Keishamthong AC MLA Nishikant Singh Sapam has mooted the idea of using the local artists and their products in Government buildings and Government related works/schemes to promote them.
He was speaking on the sideline of the inauguration of a three-day art exhibition titled "8 Unfinished" at Books & Coffee, Singjamei Yumnam Leikai.
Pointing out that the market for art works in the State is very small, the Keishamthong AC MLA said that it would be a wise policy of the State Government to promote local artists if the Government procures their products and use them in Government buildings.
He also said that using local artistes in Government schemes and projects will help them (local artists) secure a reliable market besides enhancing their skills and creativity.

Saying that local artists in small States like Manipur face a lot of difficulty as painting works require money and there are limited art lovers and buyers, Nishikant expressed hope that local artists will be promoted and encouraged by all in their own capacity.
Informing that he used a Kabui artisan from the State in setting up his hotel, Nishikant went on to say that he would continue to use local artists if he launches his/her other private works in the future.
While stating that most artistic qualities are inborn, he asked the youngsters who are interested in arts to learn the basics of arts from art colleges to groom their talents and creativity.
He further lauded the young talented artists for organizing the art exhibition and appealed to all to come and participate.
Yumnam Veeshantam, proprietor of Books & Coffee who is also one of the eight artists who organized the art exhibition conveyed that eminent artists and experts will interact with the audience on the last day of the event, which is March 29 .
