MPCC office bearers instructed to continue term

All India Congress Committee (AICC) Manipur in-charge issued a circular on Saturday instructing the office bearers of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) to continue holding the office even though the MPCC president has resigned.
After Congress suffered a humiliating defeat in the recent elections held in Manipur and four other states, AICC president Sonia Gandhi asked all the state presidents to resign following which MPCC chief N Loken Singh resigned from his post.
After the election, AICC began making preparations to hold an organisational election, with the state units making similar arrangements as well.
To ensure smooth functioning of the organisation of the party and prevent any gaps before the organisational elections, Manipur in-charge instructed the incumbent office bearers of MPCC to Continue working until further notifications are issued.
On the other hand, in connection with the ongoing reorganisation process, a meeting of AICC general secretaries and state in-charges was convened in New Delhi on Saturday.
During the meeting which was chaired by Congress general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal, discussions were held on carrying out membership drives in each state to further strengthen the party and also on the prevailing political situation.
The upcoming organisational election and different programmes were also discussed in the meeting.
Among other party leaders, the meeting was attended by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Oommen Chandy, Mukul Wasnik, Tariq Anwar, Randeep Surjewala, Ajay Maken and treasurer Pawan Kumar Bansal.
