War on Drugs 2.0 continues unabated

Drug seizure in Manipur continues unabated as a team of Kakching police arrested one woman along with 63 soap cases containing 723 gram of heroin from Pallel Lamkhai along the Imphal Moreh road today afternoon.
The State police have been seizing a large consignment of drugs since the past few days under the ambitious War on Drugs campaign 2.0 with the notable one being the seizure of narcotic substances worth Rs 9 crore in the international market from Khergao on March 24.Chief Minister N Biren Singh, during a press meet held on March 25, had announced that any person arrested with illegal drugs would go through mandatory imprisonment for a year which can be extended up to 2 years based on relevant Acts.

Briefing the media persons at Kakching SP office complex, Kakching SP Shrey Vats stated that the team carried out a frisking and checking drive to check illegal transportations of banned drug items along the road stretch in front of Pallel commando outpost today.
During the drive, one white Maruti Gypsy coming from Pallel side was signalled to stop but the driver tried to escape the police, the SP said and added that the police stopped the vehicle near Kakching Axis bank branch after a brief chase but the driver and one companion fled from the area.
The police seized 63 soap cases containing heroin from the vehicle.
Saying that the police became aware of the presence of one woman associated with the vehicle at Pallel Lamkhai, Shrey Vats continued that the police team, accordingly, rushed to the area and detained the woman.
She has been identified as Sneha Thounaojam, w/o Sarungbam Yoihenba Meitei of Patsoi Part-II Imphal West, currently staying at Pallel Chandel Lamkhai.
As per the SP, the woman is the owner of the seized drugs and the driver is her relative.
Sneha Thounaojam has been handed over to Kakching police station along with the seized drugs.
Meanwhile, a team of Narcotic Cell Jiribam on duty at Leingangpokpi on National Highway -37 seized 25 soap cases containing brown sugar from one white Toyota Innova heading towards Jiribam last night at around 11.30 .
As per police, the seized brown sugar weighing around 316.62 gram was found concealed inside a modified fuel tank of the vehicle.
The vehicle was driven by Md Azamir (26), s/o md Azman of Sora Mamang Mayai Leikai, Kakching district.
He has been handed over to Jiribam police.
In another case, a team of Imphal West police seized heroin and proceeds of narcotic sales from a 24 year old man from Keishampat Khwairakpam Leikai today.
The person has been identified as Laishram Ajoy alias Yaiton Meitei (24), s/o (L) L Manao Meitei of Terakhongssangbi Awang Leikai, currently staying at Keishampat Khwairakpam Leikai.
The seized items include two soap cases containing 24 grams of heroin, 64 plastic vials containing heroin, 12 mobile phones, Rs 41,410 and 207 empty plastic vials.
Reportedly, the arrested person is a student (BA 6th semester) and has been selling heroin since the last eight months.
He has been handed over to Imphal police station along with the seized items.
