Bodies agree to cease entertainment events
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, March 27 2022: All Manipur Matam Ishei Kanglup (AMMIK), All Manipur Sound Service Association (AMSSA) and six student bodies have unanimously agreed to stop all kinds of festivities until the HSE and HSLC examinations are over.

They, however, agreed to have relaxation on the day of Cheiraoba.

Informing this during a joint press meet of the three bodies held at Students' Union of Kangleipak (SUK) office, AMMIK general secretary Mayengbam Dhananjoy said that an understanding has been brought over the unfortunate incident that took place on Saturday.

All the parties involved in the talk agreed to cooperate with one another and prevent such unfortunate incidents in future, he said.

AMSSA president Naorem Opendro said that the unfortunate incident took place due to gap in communication.

AMSSA had already announced their decision to suspend all types of festivities in view of the upcoming board exams.

However, there were some gaps in communication, which led to the incident.

Consequent to the understanding brought among the different organisations, AMSSA will relax its decision on the day of Cheiraoba, he said.

SUK president Ningthoujam Dhanakumar, who spoke as representative of the six student bodies, clarified that the student bodies have high regard for artistes and they would never do anything to hurt the artistes and their sentiments.

The issue that cropped up following the recent unfortunate incident has been resolved after a joint talk, he said.

He also said that the ban on festivities will continue keeping in mind the upcoming board examinations and organisers will be held solely responsible for any violation of the ban.

Thabal Chongba was exclusive to only five days during Yaoshang festival in the past but today, it has become a year round event, which is very unfortunate.

Organising such festivals at will and without any restraints have serious impact on students and their academic career, he said.

The student bodies do not have any issue in organising music concerts or Shumang Leela in auditoriums and halls and the government also allows such programmes.

As such, any organisation or individual willing to organise such events can organise the same in such closed spaces, he said.

He also appealed to all to stop coming to the offices of the student bodies for seeking permission for organising music concert or Shumang Leela.

The decision to ban festivities was taken while keeping in mind the career and future of the students, he said and added that the ban will remain effective until the board exams are over.

AMMIK had also issued notice for stopping music concerts until the board exams are over and anybody willing to organise music concert can go to AMMIK for their approval but not to the student bodies, he added.

On the other hand, the student bodies informed organisers of Thabal Chongba and music concert held on March 24 and 25 to come to the office of the student bodies after which many of them have come and apologised for the violation.

The student bodies also held a meeting with the club responsible for the Thabal Chongba event organised at Patsoi Part 3, which ignited the issue.

They took responsibility of the incident and made a clarification in this regard.

The public will soon know the truth behind the incident, he said.

He also said that the ban on festivals will not cover religious programmes and the day of Cheiraoba.
