Imphal, June 14 2021:
Condemning the alleged kidnapping of an 11 year old minor by one non local on June 10 last, All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU), Manipuri Students Federation (MSF), Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA), Students Union of Kangleipak (SUK) and Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Sinpanglup (AIMS) have urged the State Government and authorities concerned to reward capital punishment to the kidnapper at the earliest.
A press release jointly issued by the six student bodies stated that the alleged kidnapper Rupesh Kumar Singh (25) is an employee at TPPL Company.
Claiming that Rupesh harassed the minor by tucking her inside a white coloured Bolero with a sticker written as 'On Duty MSPCL', the statement urged the authorities to expeditiously probe the case to bring others involved to book.
The six associations also urged the authority concerned to submit the chargesheet timely so as to finalise the case as early as possible.
The alleged incident happened at Nagamapal Kangjabi Leirak.
According to the six associations, both the culprit and victim of the case are currently staying at Nagamapal Kangjabi Leirak on rent.
Saying that they have taken comments from the landlords of the building Rupesh is staying and the family of the victim, it claimed that they have found evidence of the culprit waiting for an opportune moment to kidnap the minor.
The statement continued that the victim went out from her room at around 5 pm of June 10, 2021, only to find tucked inside the vehicle (Bolero), the following day.
Whilst in captivity, the minor was harassed, intimidated by Rupesh, the associations alleged and added that the girl might have died had she not been rescued timely.
Continuing that such a case should not be taken lightly, the statement added that a non local committing a crime of such a degree is a testimony that the life of indigenous people is at risk.
This incident is another reminder that landlords should be very wary while renting a room to non-locals, it added.
The associations, on the other hand, appealed to the people of Manipur to never look down on victims of such an offence.
